Andrew Jones reviews

andrewWine writer and broadcaster, Andrew Jones, aka The Flying Wine Man, flies some 100,000 miles a year to make radio and TV programs and to discover the finest values from the vineyards and wineries of the world. Unlike the majority of wine journalists he prefers to taste wine samples with food, as that is how most wine is consumed.

Andrew does UK national TV on the Sky network and has appeared on over 55 US network TV affiliates in 2000. On radio he is a regular contributor to ‘The Dolans’ on WOR NYC and ‘Dining Around’ with Gene Burns on KGO San Francisco. He can be heard on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at around 10.17 am PST on Cable Radio Network.

Andrew has received various awards and honors including the Glenfiddich Gold Medal for wine trade journalist and intronisation into France’s oldest wine order, the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Sacavin. Over the past 6 years he has had 4 books published, specialising in the history, romance and characters from the world of wine and drink. His first book, a handsome volume called The Stories Behind the Labels, was short-listed for the Prix Lanson.

IN THE US

Andrew first emerged in the USA in the mid-eighties on CNBC television, and is the only wine journalist ever to be seen on the Crook & Chase Show. He was dubbed ‘The Flying Wine Man’ in 1985, after comparisons with ‘The Galloping Gourmet’, Graham Kerr. Using his natural ability as a story-teller he relates the history, romance and characters associated with the labels of bottles from around the globe. His Royal stories, based on real wine involvements with some of the British Royal Family, are extremely popular and he was the first person to introduce Californian wines into a Royal cellar.

IN THE UK

Andrew travels to wineries all over the world to broadcast live by phone to 25 UK stations nationwide. He is also the wine voice of leading BBC and independent stations in England, Scotland and Wales. With his original approach to the subject he is in great demand as an after-dinner speaker and at corporate events.

Andrew is the son of an American father, now deceased, who was raised in Illinois and a Welsh mother, who still lives in Cardiff, South Wales. He is a committed Christian and lives in Kent, England with his wife, Branwen, and son Huw.
