The origin of the Furmint White wine is as yet not fully understood. However, it is assumed that this has arisen from a cross of Heunisch seedling (An important variety of 19th century) and an unknown Hungarian vine. However, other tongues which carves the Furmint White Wine comes from the southeastern Balkans. This variety has a vigorous growth matures very late and is therefore susceptible to frost.
