If Uruguay is a small producer of wine, do not forget that Celeste has won two times the title of World Champions. There are very very long time! In 34 and 50, seems you me. On the ground wine, France crushes Uruguay. On the football field, nothing is gained, far away …! But we must win …!
The Uruguay remains a small country of wines, but gradually takes a little bit of space, along with Argentina, Chile, and even Brazil.

Nobilo is the second largest wine company in New Zealand. It was founded in 1943 by Nikola Nobilo, a Croatian of Italian descent from the island of Korcula. In fact several members of the Nobilo family still survive on the island and have been tending vineyards there for some 300 years. Nikola planted his first small New Zealand vineyard at Huapai, just to the northwest of Auckland on the North Island, and went on to inspire a family-driven operation that developed into the leading exporter of New Zealand wines.

I recently met with him Jacques Disner, the cellar in Chamoson Polyte (Valais):
We turn first time in the winery where we tasted a lot of wines from the vintner chamosard, whether white or red. All are drawn to the tank. Jacques student almost all of his wines in stainless steel tanks. His chardonnay and Millennium are sweet for their high undergrowth.
White wines:
Pendant Chamoson 2009. Mineral beautiful expression in the nose but the palate fruity (apricot), fresh and fine, good length. A cracking which does not lack body.

Chardonnay, Chablis, Bourgogne or Montrachet. Whatever you call it, they refer to the same wine but then again, maybe not. One thing’s for sure, Chardonnay is the undisputed King of white wine, the most noble white grape in the world. To some, Chardonnay taste of butter and hazelnut but to others, it taste of tropical fruits. The difference can be attribute to the region where the grape is grown as well as the method of making the wine.

My first encounter with Zinfandel was back in the early 1980s, on holiday in Hawaii. I chose the wine from the restaurant wine list because the name was so unusual, I didn’t know whether Zinfandel referred to the grape, the name of the wine or the grower. Since this was early in the 1980s what came to the table was a salmon pink off-dry wine which was an ideal accompaniment to the seafood on offer. And at the risk of putting off readers so soon in the story, I enjoyed this wine and thought no more about it.

De Loach Vineyards
I arrived at the tasting room of De Loach Vineyards somewhat jaded after a 11 hour flight from London followed by a 2 hour drive from San Francisco in the rush hour. The folks were very welcoming and after I had been given some Zinfandel to revive my spirits I was taken for a drive around the various De Loach vineyards by Laura Sarong their marketing manager.

Think of the world’s greatest wine regions and Champagne, Burgundy, Napa and perhaps Chile come to mind. But hidden in the Mid-West is a lesser known, but equally fruitful gem: Missouri. Yes, Missouri. Replete with over 30 wineries, many of them award winning, Missouri is producing some world-class vintages. But whether from lack of marketing or elegant-sounding names, Missouri wines remain virtually unknown to “outsiders”. This was not always the case, however. Prior to prohibition, Missouri was second only to New York in wine production. Settled by German immigrants, the Missouri River Valley with its lush, rolling hills reminded them of their homeland. Therefore, it was there that they put down roots…of the viney kind.

This batch of top-flight began in the 90s. Is enjoying his regular vintage 1953 company leading experts in the wine that Jacques Diebolt had the idea to remake a vintage according to methods used by his grandfather. Thus, the first vintage flower Passion was 1995.
Only the best parcels of Cramant are used for flower of passion: “the best of the best”. Replanted in the 60s, these vineyards are now very elderly, especially by the standards of the Champagne, and yields are naturally low and complex expressions. The wine is vinified and aged in barrels in order to investigate the complexity, harmony and length.

A few miles south of Epernay, Cramant is the first village of the quartet prestigious Cote des Blancs: Cramant – Avize – Oger – Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. It is certainly one of the finest area of Champagne, with its chalky slopes facing east, often topped by a small forest, which plays a thermo regulatory role. Here is the realm of vintage Champagne Blanc de Blancs, Chardonnay which shows one of its finest expressions.
