Festival theme:The Monterey County Vintners and Growers Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization representing over 80 wineries and grape growers in Monterey County, is pleased to invite hiking enthusiasts, nature lovers, viticulture partners, and the community to participate in the 1st Annual Winery Vineyard Walk on Saturday, June 26th at Paraiso Vineyards.
Events and activities:This charitable event will guide walkers through the rugged 5 mile trail of one of the many the scenic vineyards, located in the famed Monterey County Wine Country. The amazing path will lead walkers through many scenic stops.
The Monterey County Vintners and Growers Foundation has been active in community contributions for over a decade. In a year when community needs are greater than ever, the viticulture industry is launching this event to utilize its’ valuable assets of people, land, and products to help fulfill the needs of the area. Winemakers, vineyard managers, owners and winery personnel will all be on-hand to join in the walk and show their support for the community.
Participants in the Winery Walk will raise a minimum of $200 to venture the 5-mile trail, the equivalent of a nominal $40 per mile. They will then receive access to the private vineyard trails, an event t-shirt, walker bag of sponsor items, games and prizes at various stops along the trail, action vineyard photo of each walker during the race, and admission to the after-walk party and luncheon at Paraiso Vineyards, immediately following the event. All walkers will also receive a winery discount for wines purchased the day of the walk.
About the organizer:MCVGF manages a scholarship program for children of vineyard and winery employees throughout Monterey County. In the past, so many of these recipients have indicated that they will be the first in their family to attend college and look forward to giving back to their community and making their families proud. All recipients have demonstrated leadership in the areas of academics, extracurricular participation, and community involvement. In 2009, nearly $15,000 was awarded to local students.
MCVGF also makes donations to other c3 non-profit organizations that seek funding to achieve their mission. Previous community beneficiaries have included Rancho Cielo, The Kinship Center, The Boys and Girls Club and the Central Coast Visiting Nurses Association. National beneficiaries have included Cure Breast Cancer, Inc., Best Buddies, and Habitat for the Humanity.
