montefalcoMontefalco for its location is called the “balcony of Umbria, in fact, dominates the valley to Spoleto from its 473 meters of altitude.

Since Roman town was devastated in the middle of the thirteenth century. by the troops of Frederick II (when it was still called Coccorone). Rebuilt ultimately took the name of Montefalco.
Land famous for the oil and the wine is the home of “Sagrantino di Montefalco” DOCG wine.
It is produced in both dry powerful wine, tannic and suitable for long aging in both dried.
A great credit must be given to the producer most ‘famous in the area, “Caprai” who managed to bring the world attention and raised sagrantino whole economy of Montefalco.

Visiting these lands, one is struck by attachment of the people against the Sagrantino grape, considered almost sacred. Some manufacturers do people collect only of extreme confidence.
It warns that growing is an integral part of local culture. Among the manufacturers we mark those who, not coincidentally, are the most ‘famous: Caprai, Scacciadiavoli, Antonelli, Adanti (with a nice cellar), the rock of the blacksmiths, and with the larks of Miltiades Antano.

I must say that all produce good products but a step up and put it right Caprai Miltiades Antano wines with full, fresh, with a beautiful body, the smell and taste is persistent, with the tannins and structure. For the latter I would say a few words. The son was the only producer who has welcomed me directly, only manufacturer to take care of all production directly (from the vineyard to the bottle) and WITHOUT a winemaker in the cellar! Do not ask … but how? … Will respond with the good grapes! Production drastically reduced to 50 q per hectare (the Regulations allow 80), a passion for the land and an extraordinary experience allow him to compete on equal terms with the realities wine more ‘important in the area.

Finally I would like to point out that many wineries are restructuring (gen.03), this shows that the increasing attention to this wine was perceived by producers.
