1997 “Sonoma Cask”
Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon
The price-value ratio is just too much to overlook. It screams, “Buy me, and try me”.
“Come on now, your telling me this is a $15 Cab from Sonoma?” That’s what you will be saying after you taste it. Then I expect to hear, “Thanks Greg, we appreciate the tip”. Just show me a little love for my efforts people.
Of course Sonoma shows well with their Cab’s but often times the juice just doesn’t always keep up with the $35 price tag. You will be more than happy with this. It has heralded as many thumbs-up at a recent tasting as the $75 premium Sebastiani Cherryblock Cab. The price-value ratio is just too much to overlook. It screams, “Buy me, and try me”.
It comes off as a ruby-brick red color in the glass and has pleasant tangy piercing aromas of dark berry and oak. The layers of flavor just come at you one after the other. Layers are good, when they are quality fruit and oaky vanilla all stacked on top of each other. The mouth feel is intense, full bodied and lush. Pleasant tannins and a full structure surround very saturated ripe dark berry flavors. This wine is 95% Cab, and 5% Cabernet Franc.
Winemaker Mark Lyon aged this wine for 17 months in French and American oak barrels and has been releasing some exceptional wines. He blends from 8 vineyards to produce this awesome juice. Nice stuff.
