Drinkin’ a Nice Washington Cab

1998 “Red Mountain”

Cabernet Sauvignon

Damn right! That’s my enthusiastic and matter of factly punctuated response to all questions concerning this wine.

Cabernet Sauvignon? Damn right, and it’s loaded with potent juicy, thick layers of dark berry flavors that are surrounded by mild tannins and a thick coating finish with awesome texture.

1998? Damn right, and it was a very nice vintage for the folks growing grapes in eastern Washington, noted as one of the warmest years on record for the region and producing some very ripe and fruit driven wines.

Make a reservation for the tasting, it’s free. Excellent Cabernet. The Special Selection Cab from a dry harvested 15-acre parcel is outstanding. The tasting is limited in size so it’s comfortable, relaxing, and you might even learn a thing or two. Purchases of the Special Selection were limited to 3 bottles at our visit – and of course we bought the limit. See detailed review.

Well what can I say – the first winery to offer a metal screw off top in their top end $145 per bottle cab. Should last forever… This winery is neat, comfortable, and fun. Interesting Sangiovese too. Enjoy a sandwich outside while drinking wine (your bring the sandwich).

A frequent stomping ground of ours. Whether you found Fogarty’s name in the Time 2002 Almanac under the Inventor’s Hall of Fame, worked with him in the medical field, or know him personally, you need to stop at the winery if you are in the Santa Cruz Mountain Region, more specifically if you are traveling the Skyline Blvd area near Silicon Valley.

Jon Hunt manages Fogarty’s wine tasting room. Although he can’t make a good bet on a football game, he sure is fun to talk with at the winery. The winery has wonderful views of the vineyards and is a great place to have a great outdoor event like a business meeting or wedding. They have all that is necessary.

The Quotable Wine Lover

by Kate Fiduccia

the-quotable-wine-loverThe Quotable Wine Lover by Kate Fiduccia is a great little book that all wine lovers should have on hand, whether as a coffee table book, on your desk to visit frequently, or in between the couch cushions where you know you won’t lose it. I personally enjoy picking it up and reading some quotes with a couple glasses of Cabernet while somewhat horizontal on my eight-foot chaise lounge… But you choose your own way to enjoy it.

The book is a couple hundred pages of fun quotes, sayings, and thoughts on wine by all kinds – poets, celebrities, authors, wine makers, chefs, newspapers, the Bible, and more. There is a quick forward by Daniel Johnnes, wine director and head sommelier at Montrachet, a fine New York restaurant. The Quotable Wine Lover is broken up into six fun, well thought out sections:
